I adopted Juniper from a rescue in Auburn, WA just four days before Christmas in 2022. She’s a friendly, energetic American Staffordshire Terrier.
One of the best things I learned in dog training classes is that dogs have hobbies, just like people. Juniper’s hobby is playing with other dogs. Even though she has her brother and four cousins to play with, nothing excites her like meeting new friends. And that makes it my job to find some for her!
Here’s a gallery of Juniper playing with other dogs (mouse over for descriptions):
So far, Juniper hasn’t met a dog she doesn’t get along with. She occasionally squabbles with her brother, but they’re actually from the same litter–true siblings–and neither of them displays a temper with other playmates.
I’m not really interested in taking her to the dog park, where it seems like many people just release their dog into the melée and hope for the best; I prefer to introduce her to dogs with families who want to set their pups up for a win. For example, Juniper’s cousin Echo is possessive of toys–so in the photos that include Echo, you’ll notice there are no toys, just dogs playing wrestling/chasing games. Echo isn’t perfect, but that doesn’t mean she can’t have fun if her humans pay attention and make changes. I want Juniper (and your dog!) to have opportunities to enjoy a new friend in ways that make sense to dogs, not just ways that are convenient for people.
She’s an intuitive player and can match the style/energy of most friends–even cats! If you have a friendly goober with more energy than you can handle, let’s see if they’ll tire each other out. ❤ I’m interested in:
- A leashed walk to explore a park together (no rainy days for us, though we’re cool with snow!)
- Some free time to race around in one of our yards, with or without toys
- Taking a fun dog class together! I’ve had my eye on courses in scentwork as well as canine parkour for beginners
- Surprise me. What sounds good?
